In the south of France, you will find a variety of different landscapes. You can explore the wonderful mountains of the Alps by visiting the region around the Mercantour National Park on the border with Italy. There you will find hiking spot, waterfalls, small villages and wonderful mountain lakes. The more you approach the sea, the more the vegetation is changing with the appearance of the typical landscape of Provence. In the southeast of France, you can find a mixture of highlands and beaches and together they create some of the most impressive landscapes in France.

In the southwest of France, the landscape is different with wider beaches and lagoons that stretch parallel to the Mediterranean. Here you will find much smaller hills near the sea with extinct volcanoes around the city of Agde. The further north you travel, the closer you will get to the beginning of the Massif Central mountain ranges. Here you will find canyons, waterfalls, limestone plateaus and rivers. To the border with Spain, you can explore the second highest mountain range in France, the Pyrenees.
